Verkamp collection [photographs], 1906-2000.

The photographs are a mix of 35mm color slides, color photographs, small b&w images, and large format b&w images. The first series features the Verkamp store on the south rim of the Grand Canyon and shows both interior and exterior views. The Shrine of the Ages Chapel, long a dream and project of the family, occupies the second series. The third series, the largest series by far, contains photos of the family, centered on John G. Verkamp, Catherine Wolfe Verkamp, and their progeny. The family made many vacation trips, both locally and to far-flung locations such as Hawaii, and these trips are recorded in series 4. Included here are very fine pictures of the beginning days of construction of Glen Canyon Dam and its accompanying infrastructure. Series 5 contains portraits of people outside the immediate family, relatives and friends. Series 6 is of landscapes, mostly of the Grand Canyon but featuring other locations as well, plus many pictures of flowers. Series 7 consists of photographs of events in the familiy's life, while series 8 shows scenes in a variety of locales, many unidentified.
